GIS-based analysis on the spatial patterns of global maritime accidents

Based on the global maritime accident data from 2010 to 2019, density analysis and clustering have been used analyse spatial patterns of accidents in terms frequency severity. The North Sea, Baltic Sea Mediterranean form low severity clustering. More than 60% are found within sea areas less 30 nm coastline. As characteristics severity, coastal waters surrounding China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam Philippines, Singapore-Malacca Strait Bay Biscay high although they medium densities analysis. Almost serious very comparison results indicate that latter can provide more abundant characteristic information, while former is superior simplicity computational efficiency. This study provides useful information assist relevant authorities improving traffic management.
